On a daily basis, the Sun Journal editorial staff feverishly works to shine the brightest light on left-wing, liberal, nationally syndicated columnists and political cartoonists, and purposely promotes “doom and gloom” stories that the editors hope will make President Bush look bad.

As I fully expected, editors broke down the death of Ronald Reagan along political party lines. According to the Sun Journal headlines, only Maine Republicans are saddened by Reagan’s death and consider him to be a great president. Apparently no self-respecting Democrat would or should be saddened by Reagan’s death.

A Sun Journal editorial (June 8) called President Reagan a “controversial” president whose reputation has been protected and polished “with considerable effort” by the “conservative movement.”

The Sun Journal gives only “partial” credit to Reagan for the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union, and states that Reagan “scared the daylights out of us” with “fear and dread of a nuclear Armageddon” and a “fiery end.”

Also highlighted was the increased federal deficit under Reagan, the Iran-Contra scandal and the “explosion of poverty.”

Shame on the Sun Journal for another example of hysterical, ridiculous, politically motivated rhetoric. You have succeeded in turning your newspaper into nothing more than a daily 60 cent commercial for the Democratic Party.

On behalf of true Americans, I say thank Ronald Reagan for restoring America to greatness, ending the Cold War and making the world a safer place in which to live. May he rest in peace.
