Less than two weeks after I placed the heavy, metal American Legion marker on my father’s grave, I discovered May 29 it had disappeared.

For 25 years, it’s been placed on his grave for Memorial Day at St. Peter’s Cemetery. How could someone be so heartless as to take something that means so much to the family from a veteran’s grave?

I hope he has nightmares over this.
