FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington is offering a free exam, the Miller Analogies Test, to qualifying individuals who are interested in applying to a graduate institution within the next five years. The test will be offered in June and July. The test assesses aptitude in several areas, such as the ability to recognize relationships between ideas; fluency in the English language; and general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematic and fine arts. Test-takers must be first time MAT test-takers and must complete two MAT test forms on the same day, one on computer and the other on paper. The standard $55 fee for the test will be waived for participants who take the test in summer. Each test-taker will receive an official score from one of the MAT tests; the scores are valid for five years. More information on the MAT may be obtained on the Internet at www.MillerAnalogies.com. Marching bands

WILTON – The Wilton Blueberry Festival is looking for marching bands to participate in the annual festival parade. The parade will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 7. Bands will receive a monetary amount for their participation. For more information, contact Shannon Smith at 778-4726.

Firefighters meet

CHESTERVILLE – The Franklin County Firemen’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at the Chesterville Fire Station. The business meeting will provide an update on homeland security program funding, a discussion on training activities and important dates for this summer’s events. The program will feature a presentation on public education and fire-prevention ideas available to local departments. John Beatty from Maine Fire Service and Education will be the speaker. All firefighters and guests are welcome to attend the meeting. Refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the program, and door prizes will be awarded.

NEW VINEYARD – The Mount View Church will host a Journey Home Concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the church. The group was formerly called Jodi Lynn but has changed its name to Journey Home. The group will sing varied selections of contemporary music. There is no admission fee but a freewill offering will be taken. Everyone is welcome to visit with the group following the concert and enjoy refreshments served by the Social Committee in the church.

Club auction

NEW SHARON – Items are being collected for an auction sponsored by the Square and Compass Club at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 20, on the lawn of the New Sharon Congregational Church. Nature programs

RANGELEY – The Wilhelm Reich Museum on Dodge Pond Road in Rangeley announces nature-related workshops and presentations in its Sunday series of the Natural Science Program. The outdoor workshops are free and take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the sheltered classroom and on the museum trails and fields.

July 11: Wildlife biologist Chuck Hulsey will present Wild Turkeys in Maine. There will be a demonstration of the “rocket net” device used to capture turkeys for relocation and research.

July 18: Naturalist and Maine Master Guide Ray Reitze Jr. presents “Wilderness Survival.” Ray and his wife, Nancy, also an experienced guide, naturalist and herbalist, run the Earthways Guided Canoe Trips and School of Wilderness Survival in Canaan.

July 25: Ecologist Lisa St. Hilaire will guide a “Moss Walk.” She will give an overview of mosses, then guide a walk on the museum trails to look at a variety of mosses first-hand and describe their growing habits and ecological niche.

Participants are reminded to dress for weather and bug conditions. Sturdy shoes, bug spray, and bottled water are recommended. Workshops are held rain or shine. The Natural Science Program is funded by the Wing-Benjamin Trust, Friends of the Wilhelm Reich Museum, and individual donors. For information phone 864-3443.

Museum market

RANGELEY – The Friends of the Wilhelm Reich Museum has announced the first Orgonon Festival and Flea Market in Rangeley on Saturday, Aug. 14. Space on the lawn is $20 per 10- by 10-foot lot. Ample parking will be provided as well as coffee, doughnuts and bathrooms. Markets provide shelter, table and displays. For information phone Mary Henderson at 864-3443.
