BETHEL – Among the houses on the Bethel Historical Society’s House and Garden Tour on June 18 and 19 will be the Kennett House, built in 1885.

Situated on the site of the former Methodist parsonage, the Queen Anne style home was built for Judge Addison E. Herrick and his wife, Mary Chase Herrick (aunt of the famed novelist, Mary Ellen Chase).

Ogden Mills, secretary of the interior in the Hoover Administration, spent one winter here with his family. Subsequent owners include Fred Merrill, Dr. Arthur Walters, Charles Heywood, and Robert and Sue Crane, who established a real estate office in the ell of the structure.

Present owners, Ed and Mary Jo Kennett, converted the attached stable into their real estate office in 1993 and have made other renovations to the present.

Tickets for the tour and luncheon will be available at the society’s O’Neil Robinson House at 10 Broad St. beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day.
