LEWISTON – Portland Pipe beat the Bulldogs twice to claim the championship in the Open Bracket of the annual Andy Valley Softball Umpires Memorial Tournament held during the weekend.

The Bulldogs had entered the championship round unbeaten, having knocked off Ducharme, Sports Arena, Gipper’s and Tiba. But Portland Pipe came through the losers’ bracket and beat the Bulldogs twice to capture the title. Tiba finished third and Ducharme fourth. A total of 12 teams were entered.

McLaughlin went unbeaten (4-0) in earning the C-D (13 teams) championship. Cahill Tire finished second, followed by Stanley and Rack-Em-Up.

Triple play ends game

TURNER – A lightning quick triple play ended the contest as the Turner Patriots came-from-behind to edge the Turner Cougars 15-14 in the 12-Under Division of the A-K Girls Softball League. The Cougars were trailing 15-14 in the last inning but had the bases loaded and no outs. Second baseman Sarah Durgin caught a screaming line drive, stepped on second and fired to third to turn a spectacular triple play to save the Patriots. Offensively, Durgin, Megan Berube and Carrie Randall all collected 4 hits. Jocellyn Harvey was the winning pitcher, with Kassara Varney gaining a save. Megan Miller and Krissy Ellis both rapped 3 hits for the Cougars.

Auburn Players

AUBURN – Chuck Buker and Chad Lutick sparked the offense as Main-Land earned its first victory Sunday, 8-7 over DRS Construction. Mike Dubois was the winning hurler.

CarQuest Auto grabbed a forfeit win over K&K Excavating.
