LEWISTON – Ruth E. Deering, 84, of 156 Main St., Auburn, died at d’Youville Pavilion June 15.

She was born in Peaks Island on Sept. 14, 1919, the daughter of Mary Adams Bridge and Harold Millett. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1937. She trained as a practical Nurse at Dr. Leighton’s Private Hospital For Woman, and also graduated from the Northeast Business College in Portland.

She enlisted in the Navy during World War II, and was a Pharmacist’s mate stationed in Virginia. She married John Deering June 1947, he passed away on April 5, 1985. She raised her family in Auburn, later moving to Mechanic Falls.

She was a member Auburn Methodist Church and Mechanic Falls Senior Citizens. After her children were grown, she worked at Pease Nursing Home in Auburn and the Pineland Center.

She is survived by a son, John R. Deering; a daughter, Joan E. Rowe and her husband Leo; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Matthew Strout; one stepgrandchild, Kristopher Rowe; two brothers, William and Robert Ellery and his wife Barbara; many neices; and friends of the family.

She was predeceased by her husband, John; two sisters, Lois Morrell and Esther Crooker; and a sister-in-law and friend, Jackie Ellery
