NORTH YARMOUTH – The following area students were recognized at the recent Awards Day at North Yarmouth Academy:

Katelyn Martens, a senior from Pownal, received the Rhode Island School of Design Award, for outstanding achievement in the visual arts. She also received the Kenneth B. Coombs Prize for demonstrating love and enthusiasm for history. Martens will attend Tufts University School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Harry Hanson, a sophomore from Bowdoinham, was awarded the Payson-Bird Prize for excellence in composition.

Krista Rogers, a senior from Pownal, received the Maine Principals Scholarship. She will attend Mount Holyoke College.

Ryan Bell, a junior from Pownal, received the Upper School Theater Arts Award for outstanding achievement in theater arts.

Luke Welch, a senior from Auburn, received the Bob Hawkes Prize given to an outstanding male athlete who has demonstrated leadership, citizenship and sportsmanship. Welch will attend Bowdoin College.

Jennifer Kendall, a senior from Auburn, received the Donald A. Shulman Prize for outstanding achievement in French. She will attend Wellesley College.

Area student also had excellence results in the National Language Exams. In the Latin 1 exam, Andrew DeGaudio, Topsham, received Cum Laude, Caroline Kessler, Topsham, received Magna Cum Laude, and Jenna Lane, Durham, received Silver Maxima Cum Laude.

In the French 2 exam, Michael Moody, Auburn, was sixth in state, and Katherine Briggs, Pownal was sixth in state in French 3.

Danica Rogers, Pownal, was seventh in state in the Spanish 2 exam and Harry Hanson was ninth in state.
