I have read the articles (June 11 and 12) about the plans for reviving the area south of Kennedy Park, and I would like to make some observations.

In order to restore a sense of community, you need people on the streets.

And that would be accomplished by having lots of reasons to be there, like mom and pop stores and other businesses that attract foot traffic. An office building will only have people who drive to work and then drive home without interacting with the community at large.

Also does the city plan to invest anything in the education of the folks in the area it wants to renew? After all, a new home won’t make the difference. What will make the difference is a good education so they can get good jobs and pull themselves out of poverty. I wonder if that has even crossed the minds of Mr. Bennett and his boys.
