The editorial June 10, under the headline “Blaming others,” said voters picked state Sen. Rotundo because she more closely matches their policy preferences. Candidate Paul Madore has considerably more in common with the Republican challenger, the editorial continues.

Madore has more in common with the Republican, religious right and Roman Catholics like me who vote for the lives of unborn babies and the sacrament of marriage between a man and a woman.

Mainstream America is not for abortion on demand.

I read and listened to comments about the media. Most newsrooms and C-Span are much more liberal on social and moral issues than mainstream America.

I heard Sen. Joseph Biden in a strong, emotional tone tell John Ashcroft, “We hold to the Geneva Conventions and are against torture to prevent harm to our sons and daughters in time of war.”

On Saturday, June 5, on the front page, I read about 284,000 jobs added. George Bush is touting this rise as the result of tax cuts and as a reason to make the tax cuts permanent. Nothing is said about the wages earned or the long-term deficits or the cuts in social programs.

I weep for the innocents who are dying in my country, Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Palestine and Africa and for children everywhere.

My favorite Maine politician is Michael Michaud, and I believe that he is pro-life.
