PORTLAND – Laurene Lois Appleby, 71, of Perkins Valley Road, South Woodstock, died in Portland June 18.

She was born in West Paris on Aug. 15, 1932, the daughter of Othie and Minnie (Swift) Buck and was educated in local schools. She had been employed in local shoe shops and was a member of the Willing Workers of South Woodstock for over 20 years. She married Walter Appleby Jr. on April 15, 1956.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years; one son, Walter Appleby III and his wife JoAnn of Woodstock; six daughters, Pamela Dow of Lewiston, Pat Stevens and her husband Doug of Sumner, Linda Smith and her husband Mike of West Paris, Lolita Grass and her husband David of Limington, Danielle Appleby of Greenwood and Shelly Hinkley and her husband Robert of Bethel; one sister, Joyce Linindoll of South Paris; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
