DALLAS PLANTATION – A Salem, Mass., man died Friday when the ATV he was driving flipped over, landing on his chest, Maine Warden Reggie Hammond said Saturday.

Christopher Magulas, 33, died shortly after 6 p.m. when he and others were riding ATVs in a small sand pit off a trail in Dallas Plantation, Hammond said. “He was going up a small incline, and the machine came over backwards on him, landing on his chest,” Hammond said. Magulas died before emergency workers were able to get him to a hospital, the warden said.

Magulas was wearing a helmet, and didn’t appear to be driving the machine fast, Hammond said. “All the witnesses said he was only going 5 to 10 miles per hour. It was a fairly big machine, and him hit square on the chest.”

Magulas was with a group of riders from Massachusetts, and was staying at a local motel while visiting the area on vacation, Hammond said.
