FOXBORO, Mass. – Matt Taylor scored twice to lead the Kansas City Wizards to a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution on Saturday night.

Taylor put Kansas City ahead 2-0 in the 70th minute, converting a cross from Davy Arnaud. He added a goal in stoppage time.

The Wizards extended their unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1) and improved to 6-4-3. It was the third straight loss for the Revolution, who are an MLS-worst 2-7-3.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute when Arnaud scored his fourth goal of the season off a rebound of Francisco Gomez’s shot.

New England closed within 2-1 in the 74th minute when Clint Dempsey scored his third goal on a diving header. He redirected a cross from Richie Baker. The Revolution, who have scored three goals in three games, had a goal nullified by an offsides call in the 48th minute.

MetroStars 2, Galaxy 1

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Mike Magee knocked in a header with one minute left in regulation, leading the undermanned MetroStars to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday.

The victory enabled the MetroStars (4-3-4, 16 points) to climb into a tie with Chicago for first place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Los Angeles, in first place in the Western Conference, fell to 6-4-3 overall and 21 points.

The MetroStars were missing four starters because of injuries, while five others were out serving commitments to their respective national teams.

Magee scored the game winner off a fine crossing pass by Gilberto Flores, playing in just his second game with the club. He dove between two defenders to get his head on the pass and pushed it past diving netminder Dan Popik in the 89th minute.

The MetroStars scored first in the 42nd minute, set up by a corner kick from Magee, who moved an advertising billboard about 3 feet before taking the kick to give himself more room. The move worked because Magee’s corner went to the back of defender Kenny Arena’s head, and he pushed it past starting Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman.

Arena, the son of U.S. national team head coach Bruce Arena, scored his first career goal in just his second start of the season. The 23-year-old former standout at the University of Virginia and fourth-round pick by the MetroStars in 2003 played 10 games last season, starting five, and didn’t score.

The Galaxy tied the match in the opening stages of the second half, when Jeff Parke inadvertently deflected Cobi Jones’ shot with his arm, calling for a penalty kick. Andreas Herzog successfully connected on the penalty kick, his fourth goal of the season, in the 47th minute.

The Galaxy lost the services of starting goalkeeper Hartman with a deep thigh bruise. Popik, who hadn’t played this season and saw just 16 minutes of action in 2003, replaced Hartman.
