MEXICO – Selectmen will look at ways the town can help with the Moontide Water Festival, seek more volunteers to assist with the construction of the town gazebo, and appoint a resident to the SAD 43 board when they meet on Wednesday.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office conference room.
Town Manager Joseph Derouche said that because the Moontide festival is a regionwide celebration, selectmen will look into anything the town can do to help it. The festival committee announced this week it has scaled back the fireworks because of a lack of money, and that there will be not carnival for the July 1-4 celebration.
Two people have stepped forward to represent the town on the SAD 43 school board. Derouche said one will be appointed on Wednesday. Also, the board will appoint someone to the positions of town health officer and sealer of weights and measures.
Other agenda items include a discussion on how to improve welcoming ceremonies for returning soldiers, a plea for more Saturday volunteers to help build a gazebo, scheduling of meeting dates through the end of the year for the Citizens Advisory Board, and a discussion of proposals by two organizations to complete community service projects.
Closed sessions are planned for discussing a potential new business venture and to consider the town manager issue.
