DALLAS PLANTATION – Residents will vote on whether to borrow $195,000 for reconstructing Saddleback Mountain Road at the annual town meeting Friday, June 25.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Town House on Dallas Hill Road. The registrar of voters will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The town report states the plantation has no outstanding bonds. The Budget Committee favors borrowing the money to finance the reconstruction project. The project will be a joint effort by Sandy River Plantation, Maine Department of Transportation and Saddleback Mountain, pending approval by residents of both plantations.
Voters will also decide on $30,810 for appointed and elected officers’ and the town clerk’s salary. Residents will elect members to the Budget Committee and three assessors.
A vote on the Rangeley Lakes Regional School budget for $341,654 is slated. The money would cover education costs for 26 elementary school students, eight secondary school students and five special education students and transportation, school board and the Union 37 superintendent.
The plantation will carry more than $39,772 from last year, along with $11,449 from the state foundation allocation, plantation interest and Medicare. The Budget Committee recommended a local foundation allocation of $290,453.
The Budget Committee has recommended the following amounts: Summer roads, $27,892; winter roads, $52,942; contingency fund, $1,604; computer hardware and software account, $3,390; Maine Municipal Association dues, $1,400; insurance, $18,885; Town House, $9,434; mapping and assessing, $11,025; contract services from the town of Rangeley, $84,029; and truck account, $54,934.
In addition, the Budget Committee made the following recommendations for contributions to area not-for-profit organizations: Rangeley Lakes Logging Museum, $200; Maine Public Broadcasting, $100; Rangeley Public Library, $5,900; Rangeley Region Health Center, $1,500; Rangeley fireworks display, $500; Rangeley Town Park, $250; American Legion, $150; American Red Cross, $250; Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, $225; Rangeley Region Chamber of Commerce, $1,300; Rangeley Region Guides’ and Sportsmen’s Association, $150; Meals for the Elderly, $1,000; Rangeley Region Health Appointment Transportation, $4,000; Western Mountain Shrine, $250; Rangeley Snowmobile Club, $2,000; Rangeley Cross Country Ski Trails, $1,500; and the Invasive Plants and Water Quality Protection Program, $1,335.
