MONMOUTH – Nancy E. Smith, D-Monmouth, is seeking re-election to the Maine House of Representatives.
She currently represents House District 83, which includes Monmouth, Wales and Sabattus. Due to statewide reapportionment, Smith is now eligible to run for the newly created House District 80, which includes the towns of Monmouth, Wales and Litchfield.
“I am sorry to be losing Sabattus. There are terrific people in that town, and I’ve enjoyed working with them,” Smith said in a prepared statement.
“However, representing Litchfield, along with Monmouth and Wales, will be a great fit for me. All three towns deal with similar issues related to balancing the desire to preserve their rural farming and forestry character with opportunities and challenges that inevitably come with growth and change.”
Smith is a licensed forester who works on the family dairy farm with her husband. She was one of only two freshman representatives appointed to two legislative committees.
In her first term as a legislator, Smith served on the Business, Research, and Economic Development Committee and the Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry Committee. She was one of only two freshman representatives appointed to two legislative committees
“I have learned so much in my first term – about how to advocate for my constituents and to successfully move legislation forward,” Smith said. “I am eager to continue representing the people in my district, and I look forward to the opportunity.”
