“Fahrenheit 9/11,” the new film by Michael Moore, will be shown at three independent Maine theaters when it opens Friday across the country.

The three are the Eveningstar Cinema in Brunswick, The Movies at Exchange Street in Portland’s Old Port, and Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville.

Chain theaters in Lewiston and Auburn are not scheduled to show the movie when it opens in 1,000 theaters Friday. Corporate spokesmen were not available Thursday to comment on whether those theaters would eventually screen the movie.

It also was not booked at Casablanca Cinema 4 at Bethel Station, but people have asked about it, said owner Elaine Riendeau, who added that she has not ruled it out.

Narrow Gauge Cinemas in Farmington does not plan to show the movie because of limited space, said June Stratton, one of the managers.

It also is not scheduled to play at Flagship Cinemas in Oxford, but depending on how it does in limited release, that theater might pick it up, said marketing director Anne McLaughlin.
