LEWISTON – Detectives were following leads late Saturday night in the wake of an armed robbery at the Big Apple on outer Lisbon Street.

Police were searching for a man who reportedly brandished a large knife in front of a clerk at the convenience store in the early evening, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

No one was hurt in the heist.

“We are actively pursuing several leads,” said Lt. Thomas Avery.

Police were looking for a large man with a tattoo on his neck who was driving a white Chevy Lumina. The suspect left the store, then headed east into Lewiston.

“We were told a male suspect approached the clerk, brandished a knife and demanded money,” said Avery. “The clerk complied, and money was given to him.”

The clerk was alone in the store at the time of robbery. She notified police at 7:25 p.m. and was able to provide a description.

The store was closed immediately following the robbery so police could investigate, but reopened later Saturday night.
