NASHPORT, Ohio – For the second straight day, Bob Darling couldn’t find his rhythm, and it cost him several positions in the final round of the PGA Club Pro Championships.
Darling scored a triple-bogey seven on the par-4 eighth hole at the Longaberger Golf Club on Sunday en route to his second straight 79 and a 65th-place finish.
Mike Baker, the current club professional at Sugarloaf, fired an even-par 72 on Sunday, and also finished the four-day tournament at even, good for a tie for 17th place overall.
That finish qualifies him for the PGA tournament later this summer, golf’s final major of the year.
As for Darling, the current club professional at Fox Ridge Golf Club in Auburn, he started the day much like he did on Saturday, with three straight pars.
But things started to unravel again on the par-5 fourth, where for the second straight day Darling scored a bogey. Three pars later, Darling carded a triple bogey followed by another bogey to fall to five over after nine holes.
On the back, Darling scored his only birdie on the par-5 16th sandwiched between three more bogeys.
Baker, meanwhile, played par golf in his final round after a two-over-par 74 on Saturday, making three birdies and three bogeys.
Jeff Coston, who had been leading the tournament since the second day, fired a five-over-par 77 to finish in fourth place, leaving the door open for Bob Sowards, who won the tournament with a four-day total of 12-under par 276.
