WATERFORD – The 5th Waterford Fall Foliage 5K Road Race will take place at noon Sept. 12 in Waterford Village, rain or shine. The race is a scenic run beginning at the historic Waterford Common and continuing along side Keoka Lake to Bear Mountain Inn in South Waterford.
A one-mile fun run will start at 11:30 a.m., same location. Registration is $12 for the 5K and $5 for the fun run.
Registration forms can be found at various stores and restaurants in the area, as well as at various races throughout the summer. Online registration may be done at http://www.active.com/www.active.com.
The Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Great Western Chili Cook Off. There is free chili for all the racers and a nominal fee for nonrunners. A long-sleeved T-shirt is given to all who preregister for the 5K.
Some of the proceeds from the chili cook-off and the 5K race will go to the Tony Waldeier Scholarship Fund. Waldeier was a teacher at the Waterford Memorial School for almost 30 years, and after his death in 2001, a scholarship fund was set up in his name for graduating Waterford seniors. The fund will have given out $3,500 in scholarships by the end of this school year.
Door prizes and awards are presented after the race.
