NORWAY – The Norway Summer Festival needs volunteers. Norway Downtown Revitalization is looking for friendly, energetic individuals to help on the day of the festival, July 10. Help is sought in many different areas, including unloading and set up, acting as parking attendants, supervising information tables, and putting up signs. Book sale
WEST PARIS – The Friends of the West Paris Library are accepting donations of books for their August book sale. The date will be announced. Books may be left at the library during regular hours, 1:30 to 6 p.m. Monday and Friday or 1:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Proceeds are used by to support the library and its activities.
Music program
PARIS – The Paris Hill Bible Church will host the Bob Jones University Musical Ministry Team at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the church on Paris Hill Road. The group will present a program of familiar hymns and gospel songs for piano, vocalists, trombone solos, duets, and trios, and testimonies from team members. Group leader Eric Newton will close the service with a brief message. The group is touring the Northeast this summer. Members of the group are students at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.
Potluck supper
HARTFORD – A public potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the Hartford Town Hall on Main Street. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share. There will be a drawing for a door prize. Suppers are held the first Friday of each month, and are run and organized entirely by volunteers. Pops concert
BRIDGTON – Shawnee Peak will host the Portland Symphony Orchestra Independence Pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at 119 Mountain Road ski area. In what will be conductor Toshiyuki Shimada’s final performance at Shawnee Peak, the orchestra will perform some of America’s best-loved music followed by a display of fireworks. In addition to music from several popular American movies, marches and patriotic melodies, Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” and “America The Beautiful” will punctuate the evening’s performance. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with food and beverage service available at an outdoor cookout or a full buffet meal in Blizzard’s Pub. Picnics are welcome on the lawn. Attendees are encouraged to bring a flashlight. No outside fireworks, alcohol, grills, recording or video equipment, or pets are allowed. Tickets at the gate are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and groups of 10 or more, $18 for students and children under age 18, and free for children under 2. Tickets are available at Bridgton Books, Bridgton Pharmacy, Sportshaus and Shawnee Peak with cash and checks only. People may save $4 per ticket by buying them in advance. Yard sale
PARIS – The Paris Cape Historical Society will hold its annual yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, on the museum lawn. Donations of items are welcome, but no clothes or heavy furniture will be accepted. The museum will be open Friday for visitors and to accept and donations of items.
Oxford sale
OXFORD – His Place Teen Center is looking for good items for its Fourth of July yard sale by the Fish Market at Abattoir Bridge on Route 26. Setup will be held June 30. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will continue through July 5. Collection of items will continue for future yard sales on Labor Day and Columbus Day weekends. No items are too big or too small, but should be items that will bring funds. Volunteers are also needed.
