AUBURN – Heavy plastic compost bins, purchased through the city from the Maine State Planning Office, are ready to be picked up, Public Works officials said.

People who ordered the bins through the city may pick them up at the Gracelawn Road Public Works Garage from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Assistant Public Works Director Sid Hazelton said the city pre-sold the bins as part of a state program.

“I guess they are the standard for stationary compost bins,” Hazelton said. “They went with a big discount, from $80 retail to $35 through the program.”

Hazelton said 140 Auburn residents participated. The bins arrived Friday, filling seven wooden pallets

More information may be obtained by calling the garage at 783-1733.
