TURNER – The Maine Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America sponsored a stream survey training workshop along with staff from Maine’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department and the Department of Environmental Protection on June 12 at the Martin Stream Campground off Route 117.
Volunteers learned how to take measurements and collect stream data that both of these agencies need – to assess stream function, fish habitat and potential pollution. The day proved to be a perfect day for stream work with sunny skies.
Volunteers will implement their new skills this summer as they help the league survey the Bear River in Newry, Cold Stream in the Forks and tributaries of the Androscoggin River and other waterways.
