PARIS – New parking rules will be in force this summer during the Wednesday Concerts in the Park in Moore Park.
Paris police will direct concert-goers to park on High Street instead of parking along busy Route 26 or in the Paris Christian Academy parking lot across Route 26.
“It’s for the safety of the community, so people won’t have to cross the major highway,” said Matt Shepard, director of the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, the concert organizer.
Cars will park head-in on both sides of High Street overlooking the park as far as Porter Street, so that more cars will be able to park close to the park. Police will provide traffic control for through traffic, Shepard said.
He said a strong lineup of musical performers, including the Bob Charest Band, Downhome Bluegrass and Kristen Short, has been booked for this year’s concert series.
“We have good bands this year, thanks to the generosity of the sponsors,” said Shepard. Businesses and the Parks and Recreation Committee have pledged more than $5,500 to bring the weekly concerts to the park.
“The sponsors are the ones that are allowing the concerts to happen,” he said.
All concerts run from 6 to 8 p.m., and will be canceled only if it rains.
Shepard said he hopes next year’s concerts can begin as soon as school lets out for the summer.
