OXFORD – Family responsibilities are coming first in the life of David Ivey, who withdrew his name last week from the race for District 100 state representative.

“It’s just not good timing right now,” said Ivey, who recently started a new job working for Waterford Homes.

Ivey won the backing of Oxford County Democrats in March to run as a Clean Election candidate for the seat being vacated by Ted Heidrich, R-Oxford. His withdrawal leaves Republican Jim Hamper of Oxford running unopposed for the seat in November’s election.

Oxford County Democrats plan to name a replacement candidate by the July 26 deadline, according to Chairwoman Cathy Newell.

“We certainly expect to fill the vacancy for District 100,” she said.

Ivey is in his second term as an Oxford selectman. He said he regrets pulling out of the race, but “I’ve got to take care of my wife and family.”

He and his wife, Anne, live on Whittemore Road and have been married 22 years. Ivey said he wants to make sure he has time to support his 16-year-old daughter Amanda’s endeavors in skiing and track and field.

Newell said she would be interested in talking to any Democrat living in the District 100 towns of Oxford, Otisfield and Mechanic Falls. Her telephone number is 875-2116.
