Maine Troopers to help out during DNC
AUGUSTA (AP) – Massachusetts State Police working during the Democratic National Convention in Boston later this month will get a helping hand from their Maine counterparts, the Maine police chief said.
Col. Craig Poulin said he will assign 25 Maine state troopers to work in Massachusetts for four days during the convention, which will be held in Boston from July 26 through July 29.
The troopers will assist on traffic control and highway ramp closures in around Boston, Poulin said.
“Our troopers will be working hand-in-hand with the Massachusetts troopers,” Poulin said. “They won’t be left out there fending for themselves or wondering where they are.”
Poulin said he’ll take volunteers from across Maine so no state police barracks are left understaffed.
The Massachusetts State Police asked the five other New England states to provide additional help during the convention. The agency will provide food and lodging for Maine troopers, Poulin said.
