POLAND – Taylor Bartlett raced into first place in the super stock divison of the Southern Maine Soapbox Derby on June 12. He will go to Akron, Ohio, on July 31 for the nationals.

Bartlett, 12, will enter the seventh grade in the fall at the Bruce M. Whittier School. He has been racing for four years. During his first local race in 2001, Bartlett placed fourth in the stock division. In 2002 he won that division and was invited to go to Akron for the nationals.

Bartlett has since moved up to the super stock division. In 2003 he came in second place in the local race by a loss of .002 of a second. This year he won the super stock division for Southern Maine.

Bartlett said he is looking forward to going to Ohio to see old friends and to make new friends. There are entries from as far as Japan and Europe participating.

Bartlett’s mother and brother are his pit crew and others have supported him during his racing.
