HARTFORD – The town has purchased an International Harvester brush cutter with mover, chipper and sickle attachments, Selectman Chairman Scott Swain reported at Thursday’s board meeting.

Swain said he and Road Commissioner Alan McNeil had spent most of a day checking out the equipment and bargaining to get a final price of $17,900.

McNeil’s road report stated that most of the tar patching had been done, and he had prepared Town Farm Road for paving the north and south end. He installed three culverts. The Road Committee will meet July 6 to develop plans for the season. The plans will be brought before the selectmen at the July 15 meeting.

In other business, selectmen signed certificates to honor the town’s committee and board members. The certificates will be presented at Friday’s monthly public town supper at 6 p.m.

A decision was made not to reimburse animal control officer Lianne Bedard for time and mileage spent bringing her reports to the Town Office, as no other officer was paid for bringing in reports. She argued that the time constraint, of filing within 48 hours, caused her to make an extra trip to the office. The selectmen suggested she e-mail the forms to the office.

The resignation of Kathy Bragg from the Solid Waste Committee was accepted, and Larry Beaulieu was appointed.

Town Clerk Monica Mailly reported she would be spending many hours over the next few weeks training Deputy Clerk Zoe Cowett and Treasurer Margaret Poskus.

Selectman Lee Holman suggested there be complaint forms for residents to fill out in the office for formal complaints against members of the board, rather than having people voice complaints over the telephone. She said, “If someone is unwilling to file a complaint, it’s just not a complaint.” Swain suggested that people come to the selectmen’s meetings and speak their minds. The suggestion was tabled until next meeting.

The board voted 2-1 against allowing the constable to carry a firearm.
