I am a Christian who wishes to speak out on behalf of John Kerry. For too long, the more vocal voices of the extreme Christian-right have been allowed to hold sway in the political arena. Those voices would have us believe that President Bush is somehow God’s chosen man to run our country.

In the past three years, this present administration has used tragedy to violate the Constitution. In the name of freedom, they have suspended parts of the Bill of Rights, they have overtly and covertly lied, and all the while they have claimed they are taking the high moral ground. One can only wonder if the commandment that says, “thou shall not lie” is applicable to this president.

It has been charged that Mr. Kerry flip-flops on issues. Could the truth be that Mr. Kerry has the leadership ability to recognize if a policy decision is not working and it needs to be altered? Maybe the Bush administration should learn this skill of leadership.

Mr. Kerry understands that one does not thumb his nose at friends, but rather works with those friends to arrive at mutually beneficial decisions.

It is time we have a change in Washington. I encourage people of all religions to look in their hearts and see that it is time that lies and deceit, in the name of God, be ended in Washington. Let’s put John Kerry in the White House this fall.
