LEWISTON – The Rev. Jane V. F. Holmes of Norway and the Rev. Thomas C. Deschaine of Auburn were ordained to the Episcopal Diaconate on June 5 at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Holmes will be assigned to Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston where she will continue to be on staff for the Trinity Jubilee Center as well as assisting with parish work. She will continue to be a volunteer chaplain at Central Maine Medical Center.

Deschaine will be assigned to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wilton where he will be involved with community outreach and chaplaincy work in the Wilton/Farmington area.

Celebrating at the ordination service was the Right Rev. Chilton R. Knudsen, bishop of Maine. The most dramatic moment in the liturgy of ordination takes place at the consecration of the ordinands when the bishop lays her hands on their heads, and calls upon God to fill them with grace and power to make them deacons.

Also in attendance were other clergy in the diocese and family who traveled from throughout the United States and England.

Holmes is a retired accountant from the VA Medical Center at Togus and Miami, Fla. She is married to Hartley Laduke and between them they have four children and nine grandchildren.

Deschaine is a former elementary teacher and principal. He is married to Carlene (Preble) Deschaine and they have two children and three grandchildren.

Master of ceremonies was the Rev. Larney Otis, priest-in-charge of Trinity Episcopal Church and president of the board of directors of the Trinity Jubilee Center.

A reception was held in the undercroft of the church following the ordination.
