AUBURN – Burglars broke into the Auburn Land Lab Sunday night, taking several pieces of equipment with them and leaving behind walls full of graffiti.

Auburn police said the break-in occurred between 6 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday at the old C.P. Wight School at 31 Holbrook Road.

Most of the stolen items were found in the woods behind the school. Auburn police were not saying what was stolen and what had been recovered.

“Most of it was insignificant stuff,” Lt. Michael Lemay said. “It didn’t appear to be stuff they really wanted.”

Lemay said the burglars left walls full of vulgar graffiti behind.

Land Lab director Jim Chandler said the break-in shouldn’t delay summer camp, scheduled to begin July 12.

Chandler said a staff member had made a delivery to the school Sunday night. A custodian discovered the damage Monday morning and alerted police. Lemay said neighbors reported hearing some sounds during the night. The break-in is still being investigated, he said.
