PARIS – An Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School graduate was surprised with a new scholarship awarded by Oxford Wal-Mart during Class Night.

The scholarship, awarded to Carina Brown, was a new Gateway computer worth approximately $600. Before presenting the award, Shannon McFarland, co-manager of Wal-Mart, said, “We at Wal-Mart feel that it is important to support our community and our students. There will be many expenses as you go off to college and we would like to help one of you with one of your expenses.”

This is the first year Wal-Mart has presented a computer to a graduating senior. The idea was initiated through the Education Committee of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Brown plans to attend Central Maine Community College in Auburn in the fall and transfer to the University of Maine in Orono in her sophomore year.
