WEST PARIS – It may be the end of the month before state police complete their investigation into the cause of a June 18 crash that killed a 7-year-old boy.

Trooper John Hainey, who is conducting the investigation, said Wednesday afternoon that he is still awaiting reports from the state’s medical examiner and an accident reconstruction specialist. Until he gets those reports, he said, he can’t complete his investigation of the fatality.

Tristan Peltier was pronounced dead at the scene of the Tuelltown Road accident.

Peltier’s 9-year-old brother, Anthony, was hurt in the crash. So was the 16-year-old driver and the driver’s 12-year-old brother.

The crash happened when the teen-ager lost control of the 1988 Toyota 4Runner he was driving on a sharp corner on the road.

The four-wheel-drive SUV went off the road and slammed into a tree.

The youth, who had a driver’s permit requiring that an adult be in the vehicle, was traveling west at the time.

The crash took place between Tuelltown Road’s intersections with Butterfield and Ellingwood roads.

The district attorney’s office said it can’t decide if charges are warranted until it gets Hainey’s report.

“In these instances it could take four, five, six weeks to complete the investigation,” he said. “My first job is to learn what happened and then tell the parents. They deserve that,” he said.
