LEWISTON – Barbara T. Ouellette, 76, a longtime resident of Ouellette Street in Jay, died Wednesday, July 7, at CMMC where she had been a patient for one week.

She was born in Farmington on April 11, 1928, the daughter of David and Georgianna Simard Jalbert. She was a graduate of Farmington High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.

On Sept. 8, 1951, she married Roland A. Ouellette of Jay at St. Joseph’s Church in Farmington. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Portland and Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Farmington. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a caring friend and neighbor and was always there for anyone who needed her.

She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and an active member of the Daughters of Isabella since 1953, where she served as past regent and secretary, as well as holding many other offices. She was a strong supporter of AYS and the Tri-Town Ministerial Food Bank in Livermore Falls. She volunteered regularly for the local Red Cross blood drives and public health clinics. When her children were younger she served as den mother for the Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her husband of Jay; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Marco Grimaldi of Jay and Julie and Rob Taylor of Jay; five sons and their wives, Fred and Denise Ouellette of Jay, Mark and Gaye Ouellette of Jay, Peter and Mary Beth of Milltown, N.J., Tony and Sue Ouellette of Sidney and Jeffrey and Kay Ouellette of Wells; three sisters, Lorraine Whittier of Farmington, Gloria Callahan of Farmington and Cecile Poisson of Livermore Falls; 17 grandchildren, Michael, Karyn and Beth Grimaldi, Sarah, Amy, Ryan, Jason, Jana, Joel, Jared, Nicholas, Matthew, David, Nathan and Shawn Ouellette, Erik and Emily Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers; and four sisters.
