NORWAY – Western Maine Development has begun an aggressive marketing campaign to attract tenants for its various retail, office and industrial developments.

Workers on Thursday draped a 10- by 20-foot banner from the roof of one of Western Maine Developments’ buildings, the Odd Fellows building on Main Street in Norway. Over the next year, Western Maine Development, the real estate arm of the Growth Council of Oxford Hills, will be renovating the three-story brick building using historic preservation guidelines and “green” energy efficient building design.

There’s 3,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space and 2,600 square feet on the third floor, where developers envision leasing to an established business with professional offices.

The second floor will be used by the growth council.

Next to the Odd Fellows, 6,000 square feet of already renovated space is available immediately in the Newberry Block, next to the New Balance Athletic Shoe outlet store. The space was formerly occupied by Maine Discoveries, a growth council business that is relocating.

Growth Council Vice President Barb Olson said they are working hard to attract an established retailer such as a Reny’s Department Store.

Ads for those two spaces, as well as the C.B. Cummings & Son office building around the corner, the Bridgton Commerce Center on Route 302 in Bridgton, and the Oxford Business Park on Route 26 in Oxford, are running on a regular basis in Maine Biz magazine and the Sun Journal.

Western Maine Development’s campaign includes e-mailings to brokers and developers, signs on all of the properties, direct mail, and one-on-one tours for prospective tenants. “We’ve really ramped things up within the last month,” Olson said. “We would love to talk to anyone who has ideas on leasing the space.”
