OTISFIELD – The Otisfield Fire Association Public Education Team with assistance from the Greater Portland Council of Governments is offering a bike safety program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Spurrs Corner Fire Station. Children in grades kindergarten through six are eligible for the program. Each participant will receive a free bicycle helmet funded by the Kerry Grover Memorial Fund. Planned activities include: bike inspection, helmet fitting, bike safety course, bike flags and helmets as well as an opportunity to win a new bike.
Hymn Festival
PARIS – The First Universalist Church will present its annual Hymn Festival at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at the church, 36 Pine St. The topic of the service will be “God In Nature” and will feature congregational singing, vocal solos and duets, flute solos, organ and piano duets and organ solos. Those participating will be Jeannie and Berdina Whittemore, Jeannie Byers, Renee Wales, Virginia Noble and Forest Perkins, church organist. Everyone is invited to attend. An offering will be received at the door for the Organ/Instrument Maintenance Fund.
Dems open office
NORWAY – Congressman Mike Michaud will attend the opening of the Oxford County Democrats office at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10, on Main Street. He will tour the Sidewalk Art Festival during the afternoon with District 13 Senate candidate Marge Medd and House candidate Roy Gedat, as well as others.
Bake sale
LOVELL – A bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the United Church of Christ, Route 5, Center Lovell. Coffee will be available and the thrift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Garden lecture
SUMNER – Small Fruits and Berries will be the topic of the Sundays in the Garden at Two workshop at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Hedgehog Hill Farm, Hedgehog Hill Road. A tour of the grape arbor, raspberry, rhubarb and blueberry gardens will be conducted as well as a discussion of tips on design, planting and maintenance.
Open house
WEST PARIS – The American Finnish Heritage Society of Maine invites the public to attend its Sunday open houses from 2 to 4 p.m. beginning July 11. Tour the museum, library, genealogy records, gift shop and listen to recordings. Coffee and refreshments will be offered. The museum will be closed Aug. 15.
