RUMFORD – Selectmen are to conduct a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, in the municipal building’s conference room.

The topic: hiring a new town manager.

Selectwoman Jolene Lovejoy said Monday that a representative from the Maine Municipal Association is to meet with the board to discuss the association’s proposal for an executive search for the town manager.

Robert Welch, Rumford’s town manager of 12 years, resigned last month, effective no later than Dec. 31. He will step down earlier if selectmen find a suitable replacement.

The board will also meet at its regular day and time, 7 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in the municipal building.

Topics of that meeteing include discussions about the River Valley Growth Council’s role, the Business Expo to be held Sept. 24 and 25, approval of a hawker’s and peddler’s license for the sale of vegetables and strawberries, and approval of a liquor license and amusement permit for the Barnboard Restaurant and Lounge at 12 Oxford Ave.
