TURNER – Ryan Turgeon tossed a two-hitter and allowed one unearned run to pick up the win as Gayton defeated Andy Valley 6-1 Monday in American Legion action.
Ryan Turgeon struck out four batters and his only walk came in the final inning. Tyler Turgeon provided all the offense Gayton (9-3) would need in the first inning with a two-run double to give Gayton the early lead.
Gayton’s Nate Gruz was the lone multiple hitter on the day, recording two singles and scoring twice.
Andy Valley (4-8) broke up Turgeon’s bid for a shutout in the bottom of the seventh when Tony Pirruccello scored from third when an errant pickoff throw to second base sailed into centerfield.
Brandon Smith went the distance for Andy Valley, allowing four earned runs, while striking out seven and walking three.
Mechanic Falls 3, Bessey Motors 2
POLAND – Alex Smith went the distance for Mechanic Falls, allowing two earned runs and striking out two. to lead Mechanic Falls to a stunning 3-2 victory over Bessey Motors.
Mechanic Falls (3-6) scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning when Andy Coleman raced home from third on Brent Cary’s squeeze. With the throw to the plate to get Carpenter late, the catcher tried to get Dave Lutz going from second to third but his throw sailed into left field, allowing Lutz to waltz in with the eventual winning run.
Mechanic Falls’ scored its first run in the fourth on Nate Broyer’s RBI single.
Chris Henderson got the scoring started in the second inning, hitting a home run off Smith and giving Bessey the early lead 1-0. The visitors added their second run in the sixth inning.
