WEST PARIS – Albert W. Penley Sr., 95, of West Paris died peacefully Tuesday, July 13, at his home.

He was born at Richardson Hollow in Greenwood on July 17, 1908, the son of Walter and Lisbeth Murphy Penley. He attended Richardson Hollow school and West Paris schools and graduated from Hebron Academy in 1926.

He worked for Chester Lamb at his store in Otisfield. He was co-owner of Penley Brothers Clothespin Mill in West Paris.He loved the woods and enjoyed cruising wood lots and checking lines for Penley Timberlands, he was a partner in Penley and Mills, Inc., in Bryant Pond.

He was a supporter of the West Paris Universalist Church and for many years cut the church Christmas tree. He married Marietta Smith on May 8, 1929, she predeceased him.

He was a lifetime member of the I.O.O.F. in West Paris and a charter member of the West Paris Historical Society. He owned seven harness race horses and enjoyed fairs and harness racing. He loved going to public suppers. He was a Red Sox fan and in the last few years he became interested in books and information on Alaska.

He is survived by a son, Albert W. Penley Jr. and his wife, Charmaine, of West Paris; a grandson, Douglas Penley and his wife, Michelle, of West Paris; three nieces, Elaine Emery, Beverly Glines and Frances Dennett; and a stepgreat-grandson, Tyler, of West Paris.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Everett; a grandson, Thomas; a brother, Joe; and a niece, Bethany Ring.
