FARMINGTON – Andrew Mooney, 83, died Tuesday, July 13, surrounded by his family at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center where he resided with his wife, Anita. He was formerly a resident of Hall Hill Road in Rumford for many years.

Born in Rumford, on Oct. 19, 1920, he was the son of Mathias and Emma (Glines) Mooney. He was a graduate of Stephen’s High School in Rumford. He served during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Force as a staff sergeant from October of 1943 until October of 1945, including overseas in the Rhineland and Central Europe. He worked for Boise Cascade as a machinist until his retirement.

He was a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion, a member of LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, and was also a well-known ski jumper in his earlier years. He enjoyed spending time flying, with his family, and with friends at the Snowshoe Club.

He was married in Rumford, on Feb. 14, 1942, to the former Anita Martel, who survives, of Farmington.

Other survivors include two daughters, Susan Gallant, of East Wilton and Jane Theriault, of Farmington; six grandchildren, Brad Gallant and wife, Liza, of Waterville, Jane Clukey and husband, Brock, of Andover, Brittany Gallant, of East Wilton, Diana Theriault, of LaCenter, Ky., Jessica Theriault, of Brighton, Colo., Moriah Theriault, of Farmington; a great-grandson, Deontae Robinson, of LaCenter, Ky.; and a second great-grandchild, baby, Clukey is due in February of 2005.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Andrea Mooney; a grandson, Michael Gallant; and several sisters and brothers.
