Once again, I see a young man obtaining the Boy Scouts highest rank of Eagle in the July 9 edition and I am glad for him. This letter is not to criticize the Scout, but a note to all those Scouts when presenting themselves in the public eye. The merit badge sash should be worn for a formal activity, such as a Blue and Gold Banquet, a Troop Court of Honor, team awards, recognition dinner staged by a unit, district, council or region awards ceremonies.
I have been noticing more and more Scouting events that are not Order of the Arrow (OA) related that have the Scouts wearing their OA sashes. This is inappropriate uniform etiquette, as the following from the national OA states: “The OA sash is to only be worn at Official Order of the Arrow events.” The final part of this etiquette: “only one sash may be worn at any time.”
