LIVERMORE FALLS – Vibrant colors will greet visitors to the Community Art Gallery during July and August as they view the work of two northern Franklin County artists.

Patricia L. Ritzo of Kingfield and Paula Varney Anderson of west New Portland have combined their talents on this exhibit of watercolors, pastels and acrylics.

An artist since childhood, Ritzo often finds inspiration for painting right outside the door of her 1830s farmhouse, in flower gardens and fields, farm homes, neighborhood children, and mountain and river landscapes.

While growing up in Franconia, N.H., she developed her skills by taking lessons and later earned her bachelor of fine arts at the University of New Hampshire.

She began teaching art at the White Mountain School in New Hampshire and now teaches at Carrabassett Valley Academy. Her visions on her world are expressed through watercolors and pastels.

A nature lover and poet, Anderson has lived in the hills of New Portland for the past 30 years surrounded by gardens, fields and animals. She grew up on a dairy farm in Turner, where her life was filled with fields and cows, apple trees and, always, the distant rise of mountains.

Over the years she has been a mother, gardener, a brown ash basket maker and message therapist, later becoming a writing teacher. She is now a counselor.

Anderson recently completed her graduate studies at the University of New England, during which time she began her expression of nature with paint. It is seeing nature around every bend that inspires her to paint, she said.

The dual display is open to the public during the regular business hours.
