EXETER, N.H. – Madeleine M. (Renaud) Richard, 82, formerly of 6 Sanborn St., passed away Tuesday, July 13, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.
Born June 6, 1922, in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Marie-Louise and Joseph Renaud. At a young age, she moved to Lewiston, where she grew up with her 11 siblings. In 1945, she married Alcide R. Richard, a World War II Veteran. She moved to Exeter in 1950, where she spent the rest of her life.
During her high school days, she was active in many high school sports with a special love of softball. She was a member of the Golden Arrows (high school majorettes) and traveled with them to perform in New York City.
She was employed by The Exeter Inn and Phillips Exeter Academy for almost 30 years. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church. “Maddy,” as she was often called by her many friends, enjoyed ballroom dancing, bingo, and gardening, watching Red Sox, Bruins or Celtics games. She was a championship bowler in several leagues in Lewiston and Exeter.
She loved being surrounded by her family. In 1991, a Renaud family reunion was held at Stratham Hill Park with attendance of more than 175 family members from across the country.
She leaves five children, Linda Ouellet, of Stratham, Billy Richard and wife, Sharon, of Manchester, Donna Griswold and husband, Jim, of Exeter, Barbara Smith of Yuba City, Calif., and Paul Richard and Lori Edin, of North Hampton; 10 grandchildren, David and Chris Ouellet, Jeremy, Kyle and Shawn Richard, Sarah and Tyler Griswold, Jennifer, Nathan and Adam Smith; three great-grandchildren, Colby Richard, Isayah Osborne and Jayden Gray; a sister, Georgette and Joe Picard, of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Maurice and Emily Renaud, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1996, after 51 years of marriage.
Her great sense of humor, fun loving spirit and warm smile will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
