On July 6, Kallie Oakes wrote an article about the experience of several women who had participated in a TREM (Trauma Recover Empowerment Model) group in South Paris. The article outlined the benefits of the group to the women, and announced that the next group would start in September.

The Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Androscoggin County (SACC) also offers a TREM group for survivors of sexual assault and/or sexual abuse. Like the group in South Paris, the Lewiston group is 33 weeks long and is also scheduled to begin in September.

The TREM group is divided into modules, which allow for building a foundation and establishing healthy boundaries before dealing with the more intense trauma work. The last module focuses on the impact of the trauma on the individual’s present day reality and on helping the participants develop skills to move forward in their healing.
