The Grand Trunk express train from Montreal for Portland was derailed about one mile west of Gorham village, owing to the spreading of the rails, the engine and four cars plunged down a 30-foot embankment. Mail Agent Thomas McCrillis was probably fatally injured, his back being broken, while Conductor Delaney sustained severe injuries, but is not believed to be fatally hurt.

An opinion was expressed by Lionel A. Lemieux, Lewiston Evening Journal political writer, at yesterday noon’s Auburn-Lewiston Kiwanis Club meeting that reapportionment of the Maine House of Representatives has a better chance of passage at the fall special session than at the regular session which begins next January.

From Shubenacadie, N.S. to Portage, Mich., from Quebec City to Ashville, N.C., racing teams are packing their gear and hitting the road headed for the tiny mecca called Oxford, Maine. The drawing card for all of them is the same – the 1979 ‘Oxford 250′ – which is going on record as Maine’s largest one day sporting event and the biggest auto race of its kind in the Northeast.
