CASCO – A benefit supper and dance will be held Saturday, July 17, for Gordon “Yogi” Dillingham who is home recovering from open heart surgery.

The supper from 4 to 5 p.m. will include baked beans, casseroles, chop suey, salads, rolls, desserts and beverages. Afterward, the dance will the Richard Felt Band and the Country Travelers, with guests Maine Country Music Hall of Famer Giner Mae Dyer and Jim Palmer.

These will be in the Crooked River Campgrounds, Route 302, Sebago Lake State Park Road.Supper admission is $6. The dance is $10 per person. Camping is available. New vets’ field to be dedicated

PARIS – A dedication for the new Veterans Memorial Field, a soccer and softball field at the Maine Veteran’s Home on High Street in South Paris, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18.

The field was donated by Rawn Phinney. The dedication will include music by the Maine State National Guard Band, participation by the Oxford County Marine Corps League Honor Guard and guest speaker Maine State Sen. Richard Bennett. Timothy Politis, a Marine Corps veteran and CEO of the Maine Veterans’ Homes, will give the dedication address.

The first pitch will be thrown by state Rep. Theodore Heidrich, also a Marine veteran. A bridge at the field, making access easier for residents, is being added in memory of David E. Volunteers, donations sought

Library collecting kids’ books

PARIS – The Paris Public Library, in cooperation with the KidsPeace New England office in Lewiston, is collecting donations of children’s books throughout the summer. KidsPeace provides therapeutic foster care for children whose families are suffering a crisis.

Children in the program are frequently unable to participate in community activities, such as summer reading programs. Books for all ages are needed – from board books to books for young adults. Good-condition used or new books are welcome to help KidsPeace create a diverse collection for distributing to its foster homes and to keep in its office.

The library’s hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, people can call the library, 743-6994.
