LEWISTON – M. Madelyn Verrill, 94, formerly of 444 Main St., died Tuesday, July 13, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation.

She was born in Lewiston, Nov. 2, 1909, the daughter of Lester E. and Mabel M. Smith Adams. She was educated in Lewiston schools graduating from Lewiston High School in 1927. She was married April 11, 1936, in Lewiston to Chester R. Verrill who predeceased her on May 8, of this year.

She and her husband co-owned and operated Hammond Photographic Studio in Lewiston.

She was a member of the Federated Church (now Calvary United Methodist Church) and was superintendent of the Sunday School for over 40 years, Past Matron of Mt. Olivet Chapter OES 29, White Shrine 2 of Jerusalem, Daughters of the Nile Arok Temple 4, D.A.R. Mary Dillingham Chapter, and she was actively involved in local Girl Scout leadership and was Girl Scout District leader as well. She enjoyed handwork including, tatting, knitting and crocheting and spending time at the family cottage at Bailey Island.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvyn (Melvena M.) King, of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Thomas F. Verrill and his wife, Ann, of Auburn; nine grandchildren, Stephen King, Timothy King and his wife, Cathy, Mrs. Pierre (Maria) LaPointe, Jonathan King, Mrs. Ben (Anna) Clark, Mrs. Todd (Amy) Spencer, Mary, Betsy and Jane Verrill; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, William Ray Adams Sr.
