LEWISTON – Clara (Kingman) Damon, 70, of 414 Wilsons Mills Road, Wilsons Mills, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, at the Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born in New Bedford, Mass., on June 20, 1934, the daughter of Metcalf and Helen Mae (Bruce) Kingman. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School with the class of 1952, and furthered her education at Simmons College.

She resided in Boston and Goshen, Mass., before retiring to Wilsons Mills in 1993. She was a lab technician at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, Mass. She also worked as a librarian.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Aziscohos Grange in Wilsons Mills, the Wilsons Mills Fire Department and the Friends of the Errol Library. Her interests were traveling, family history, correspondence, cribbage, her camp on Aziscohos Lake, reading, gourmet cooking, family and friends. She was an avid Red Sox fan.

Members of the family include two daughters, Betsey Hyde, of Temple and Katherine Skroski, of Phippsburg; stepchildren, Jared Damon, of Otisfield, Meredith Lawson, of Hampden, Carol Hammon, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Claudia Darneille, of Porter, Jonathan W. Damon, of Mechanic Falls, and Keith R. Damon, of Park City, Utah; 40 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Metcalf Kingman, of Mattapoisett, Mass.; one niece, Nancy Greenhalgh, of Putnam, Conn.; two nephews, Peter Greenhalgh, of Nantucket, Mass., and Bruce Greenhalgh of East Sandwich, Mass.; and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip W. Damon; a sister, Ruth Greenhalgh; and a brother, James Kingman.
