BRUNSWICK – The most beloved romantic musical fantasy of all time is back at Maine State Music Theatre after a hiatus of 15 years, the theater spokesman says.
In it, two American hunters, who’ve lost their way somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland, stumble on a tiny town that only appears once every 100 years.
Fiona, a girl of the past, offers Tommy, a man uneasy about his future, the gift of a second chance.
Does he take it?
With book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe, it’s no wonder that “Brigadoon” is a much-loved musical.
This classic won the New York Drama Critics Best Musical of 1947 and a Tony Award for choreography.
“Brigadoon” stars Jeffrey Coon (who was in Maine State Music Theatre’s “She Loves Me” in 2002) as Tommy, Kate Fisher (“Jekyll & Hyde,” 2003) as Fiona, John-Charles Kelly (who’s appeared in numerous productions here) as Jeff, and Maine State Music newcomer Kristin Huffman as Meg.
Huffman has had many regional theater starring roles and, as Miss Ohio, was fourth runner-up to Miss America in 1990, and winner of the talent award that year.
Others in the cast include Ed Romanoff, Joyce A. Presutti, Larry Raiken, Robyn Hurder, Michelle Bruckner and Robert Browning.
Among the many memorable songs, some highlights are “Brigadoon,” “Heather on the Hill,” “Almost Like Being in Love,” “There But for You Go I” and “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean.”
The director is Andrew-Glant Linden (whose last show at MSMT was “The King and I” in 2002); Linda Cholodenko, choreographer; Brian Cimmet, music director; Thom Bumblauskas, set designer; and Patrick Bevilaqua, costume designer.
