LEWISTON – The Lewiston Maineiacs released their official preseason schedule this week with a similar arrangement to last year still included.

While the team will again play all of its intersquad games at the Colisee – starting on August 12 – the team’s two “home” exhibition games will again take place at Kennebec Ice Arena in Hallowell.

“Hosting these games at the Kennebec Ice Arena provides our organization with the ability to showcase our product in the greater Augusta market,” team vice president and governor Matt McKnight said in a press release.

The first game is scheduled five days after the Maineiacs break camp on Friday, Aug. 20 against Drummondville. The second is one week later, when the Maineiacs host Shawinigan. Both games are at 7 p.m.

Tickets for both games go on sale exclusively for season ticket holders on Monday, July 19 at the Maineiacs Administration Office at 8:30 a.m.

Tickets for the general public will go on sale Monday, Aug. 2 and will also be available for purchase at the Kennebec Ice Arena at that time.

Tickets are all general admission seating priced at $10 with a portion of the proceeds going to support Area Youth Hockey.

As for the intersquad games, the first round will take place on Thursday night, Aug. 12, from 7 to 10:10 p.m. at the Colisee. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will be two sessions, one in the morning and another at night.

According to team officials, there will be player cuts at the end of each day until an exhibition squad is picked.

Also that weekend is a street hockey festival taking place in the Colisee parking lot Saturday and Sunday. The deadline to enter that tournament is Aug. 1.

On the air

Adelphia Channel 9 now has company in broadcasting the Lewiston Maineiacs’ hockey games.

The Maineiacs this week announced a partnership with Gleason Media Services that will ensure that all of the team’s away games, both in the regular season and in the playoffs, will be broadcast live by three stations, CNN 1240, WKTQ 1450 and WTME 780, within the Gleason Radio Network. Those stations reach the areas of Lewiston, Auburn, Norway, Oxford, Rumford, Dixfield, South Paris and the surrounding communities.

Providing the commentary on the radio will be Frank Stetson, who was the color commentator for Adelphia’s television broadcasts last season. Adelphia plans to continue its tape-delayed coverage of the team’s home games.

The inaugural broadcast will take place on Friday, September 24 when the Maineiacs open their season in Halifax.
