BANGOR – Nellie Mae (Shannon) Clark, 87, of Bucksport, went home to be with her Lord, her husband, many beloved family members and friends, on July 15, from a Bangor nursing facility where she had resided for the last five months.

She was born on Oct. 2, 1916, in Summerfield, New Brunswick, Canada. The only child of Fred and Lizzie (Smith) Shannon, her mother died when she was only a few weeks old and she moved to Westfield, where she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Oliver and Mae Blackden.

She graduated from Presque Isle High School with honors and married Otto Benjamin Clark, of Monticello on Nov. 2, 1933. She proudly became a United States citizen on April 7, 1953.

She was a former resident of Westfield, Kingman, Corinna, Bucksport, and Lewiston. Prior to moving to Stillwater Heath Care, she resided with her daughter and son-in-law in Bucksport and with her grandson and his family in Lewiston.

The family is most grateful for the loving, caring, and excellent care she received while at Stillwater. She worked beside her husband on their busy dairy farm in Kingman as well as always finding time to help any person who had need of her skilled baking, sewing, knitting, catering or piano accompanying.

She will always be remembered by family members for the sweaters she lovingly knit for each of them. She was an active member of the Extension Service and Grange. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a current member of the Pleasant Street Christian Church in Corinna.

She is survived by her daughter, Wilda “Wid” (Clark) Phinney and her husband, Floyd, of Bucksport; two grandchildren, Kimberly Mae Phinney, of Westford, Vt., and Clark and his wife, Kimberly Patricia Phinney, of Lewiston; a half-sister, of New Brunswick, Canada; four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Zackary, and Samantha Phinney, all of Lewiston, and Atticus Phinney-Anderson of Westford, Vt.

She is also remembered by three dear friends, Vera Taylor, of Orland, Harriet Muniz, of Bucksport, and Hilma Knowles, of Corinna.

She was predeceased by her husband, Otto; sons, Lynton Garth Clark and Lannie Otto Clark; one daughter, Martha Irene Clark; several half-sisters and half-brothers.”Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15
